Julie Polidoro / Carte du monde décousue

The artist proposes works halfway between sculpture and low-relief

Artist Julie Polidoro lives between Rome and Paris and for several years has been passionate about the representation of space, from geographic maps to landscape painting conventions. In collaboration with Galerie 8+4, she has created a series of works inspired by globe’s representational codes consisting of two overlapped fabrics, one mat felt cloth and another one changing at every work.

Here, the artist has cut national geographic contours to reveal the cloth underneath, uncovering a new reality that disrupts the arbitrary nature of frontiers. Through this cutting game as well as the dramatized tension between the two fabrics, the artist proposes works halfway between sculpture and low-relief.
