Kertész – Lartigue. Un pas de côté
Catalogue of the exhibition "Kertész - Lartigue. Un pas de côté" from 18 February to 14 May 2023 at the Espace Richaud, Versailles
This book presents a selection of photographs by two pioneers of modern photography. Jacques Henri Lartigue and André Kertész each built their own work, following parallel or divergent paths, but systematically on the fringes of the major trends. Neither journalist, nor documentary filmmaker, nor actor of the event, each gave his photographs a timeless dimension that explains the ever-renewed interest of the spectators.
These two singular personalities share a common character: that of having been masters of photography who inspired many photographers without ever having established a school of thought, and that of having remained on the fringes of the great currents of photography by always having taken "a step aside".
This publication is a co-publication with the City of Versailles and the Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie. The book includes a general text by Marion Perceval, director of the Jacques Henri Lartigue Donation, and Matthieu Rivallin, assistant to the head of the photography department at the MPP, a portfolio of 70 images combining the works (b/w and colour) of the two photographers.
