Alechinsky (Pierre)

Pierre Alechinsky is a painter and engraver, he was born in belgium in 1927 and works and lives in France since 1951. From 1948 to 1951, Pierre Alechinsky is part of the Cobra movement, wanting to free the artistic act after the war. Pierre Alechinksy creates a synthesis between modern expression and Chinese and Japanese calligraphy techniques. In his sometimes eclectic works (urban furniture, interior design, mural pieces…) the artist uses different mediums, such as ceramics in the Fondation Maeght workshop in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, or since 1975, at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, for which he often creates original décors, for Diane plates.
