The secret of Jean-Pierre Viot's work, whether on paper or canvas, lies in the quality of the silence it is bathed in: economy of means, simplicity of forms, the search for a world between balance and im-balance, the power of white, adn a deliberately limited palette. He uses the same approach in his sculptures, with equally effective results: a simplicity which goes straight to the heart through the play of opposites, of full and empty spaces, of black and white.
