Jean-Philippe Roubaud. Didascalie 6. À l'ombre de la lumière
This book, published to coincide with the exhibition devoted to Jean-Philippe Roubaud at Le Suquet des artistes in Cannes, sheds light on his protean work and questions the medium's place in art history.
Going against the grain of a technique that is often relegated to a sketchy position and imposed intimacy, Jean-Philippe Roubaud asserts the autonomy of drawing, whatever the medium. Ceramics, wall panels and tiles are all ways in which the artist explores the margins of technique. Over the years, his reflections on the role of technique have been complemented by a personal process, in which the artist has questioned in depth the topos of the Memento Mori. His vanitas do not ask us to respect specific religious precepts, but question our relationship with the world, with modern society and with the ephemeral nature of life. Through reproductions of existing works, as well as creations specially designed for the exhibition, this book invites us to discover the initiatory journey inherent in the artist's work, in which darkness and light coexist sine qua non.
Enriched with texts by Hanna Baudet, Director of the Pôle d'Art Contemporain de Cannes, Amélie Adamo, independent art critic, and Bertrand Cochard, philosopher, the book accompanies Jean-Philippe Roubaud's 6th project.
