Of Hungarian origin, Vera Molnar established herself in the 1960s as a pioneer in the relationship between art and computers. By devising protocols that questioned the ability of computers to generate forms, introducing the essential question of chance, and reaffirming the preeminence of the creator's subjectivity, Vera Molnar continually laid the foundations for an art that rejected the very idea of decoration. While some of her series of works can also be seen as distant tributes to the great masters of art history (particularly geometric abstract art), the freedom of her practice led her to establish herself as an essential artist of recent decades, to the point of having been exhibited in numerous major international institutions such as the MoMA in New York and having had a vast retrospective at Beaubourg in 2024.
