Pierrette Bloch (1928–2017) was one of the most daring artists of the second half of the twentieth century. Her relentless quest for creative systems and protocols shines with rare qualities of obstinacy, her secret injunction seeming to be to repeat without repeating herself.

One does not spontaneously think of multiples when discussing Pierrette Bloch's work, which is more readily associated with her unique inks on paper or horsehair mesh and thread. Yet the question of multiples occupied the artist from her hesitant beginnings in the 1950s until her very last work, a large aquatint that she completed shortly before her death in 2017. For Pierrette Bloch, multiples were primarily a matter of circumstance: an encounter, an invitation, a commission, which ultimately resulted in a body of work comprising some forty creations, using different media and techniques—engraving, lithography, silkscreen printing, tapestry, artist's jewelry, and more.

Galerie 8+4 collaborated with the artist on several occasions during her lifetime, producing two sets of silkscreen prints enriched with original drawings.
