Clément Bagot produces exceptionally detailed drawings in which the lines become details, causing the eye to doubt the scale, hesitating between macrocosm and microcosm, views from space, fantasized territory with city maps or images of the infinitely small in organic matter. This artist, strongly influenced by the codes of cartography, the graphic games of science fiction comics, scientific images of the microcosm, and the line work of 18th-century engravings, offers configurations in which each image unfolds layers of almost contradictory figurations with breaks in scale and their ambiguous relationships with reality. Like few other artists, he offers work that is open to reverie and imaginary wanderings through the folds of the image. He explores the question of line, its relationship to the background, and its capacity to represent. Clément Bagot's entire practice returns to the origins—the roots—of the work and therefore its meaning. Here, the inframince constantly stages itself in a pattern where each line reinforces a pareidolic vision of the whole. This artist never ceases to want to educate our gaze by forcing us to better perceive the ambiguities of any image, of any representation.
