Pierrette Bloch - Multiples / Intégrale

Pierrette Bloch is known for her ink drawings on paper and her delicate horsehair sculptures, but much less so for her prints and multiples.

This book aims to provide an exhaustive inventory and recount their history: after her first 11 works produced between 1949 and 1950, it was not until 1978 that the artist produced another series of prints or multiples. Only 22 series were produced in 40 years: silkscreen prints, artist's books, lithographs, aquatints, and unclassifiable multiples that turned out to be originals in several copies, to which two pieces of jewelry were added.

The artist was interested in all techniques, and her production of prints and multiples is of great interest precisely because of their rarity: there are no repetitions, each circumstance is an opportunity for her to imagine something new while engaging in dialogue with her visual work. This is evident, for example, in the three multiples in which she plays with her handwriting, a practice absent from her work on paper, one of which, a strip of tracing paper on which she copies a sentence from La Fontaine, would be the starting point for one of her most important series, consisting of ink stains on strips of paper in extreme formats, which would occupy her from 1994 onwards for more than ten years.
