For this 26th volume of the collection "Les cahiers", we invite you to discover the poetic, artistic and highly technical universe of the Pleyel Manufacture which has opened its doors to one of the greatest Italian contemporary designers: Michele De Lucchi. The meeting of the renowned Manufacture, with its two centuries of piano making, and this great Italian designer, is intended to create rare and collectible objects. There is now a Playel-Lucchi piano, naturally, but there is also "beyond the piano", a new and original line of exceptional furniture.

Proud of the wealth of experience gained in over 200 years of piano building, the Pleyel Manufacture, established in Saint-Denis ( 93 ), is a company which, since 2008, has carried the hallmark of a "Living Heritage Enterprise”. It is the longest-lived piano Manufacture in the world and the only one in France. Its competence and capabilities, so rare at this level, are today being extended into the construction of exceptional furniture realised to special order, or for collectors or display or edition.

From the beginning, the techniques of wood, its working, bending, sculpture, and lacquering, inspired Michele de Lucchi just as much as the history and the culture of the Pleyel Manufacture fascinated him.
With the piano, this priceless instrument, the designer imagined it mounted on "trestles" to present it better. The edges and lines are rounded off, and the curves express themselves beautifully, thanks to the master-craftsmanship that went into the sculpting and bending. The legs, lyre and score-stand have an ethereal, fluid style which seems to make them float. This is then highlighted to greater effect by forming them in solid, natural wood which contrasts with the black lacquered body of the instrument.

Michele De Lucchi immersed himself within the different specialist groups at Pleyel to learn their techniques and the personality dynamics of the team. It was all the motivation he needed to add a new range of exceptional furniture to the collectibles which distinguish Pleyel from the other furniture editors. The first pieces to bear his signature are a line of display-cabinets for collectors, gallery owners, museums, and demanding amateurs in search of exception. These cabinets will exhibit works of art and precious objects.
