Othoniel (Jean-Michel)

Born in Saint-Étienne in 1964, Jean-Michel Othoniel has, since the late 1980s, invented a multifaceted universe.

The year 1993 marked a turning point in his work. Collaborating with the finest artisans in Murano, he explored the properties of this material, which has since become his signature. The delicacy of glass and the subtlety of its colors are part of the artist's vast project: to poeticize and re-enchant the world.

More recently, his work has taken on an architectural dimension and is often found in gardens or historic sites through public or private commissions.

Since participating in Documenta in Kassel in 1992, Jean-Michel Othoniel has presented major exhibitions around the world. In particular, he had a major retrospective at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. In 2019, a new series of paintings, La Rose du Louvre, entered the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum.

His works are present in several contemporary art museums, foundations, and private collections around the world.
