Picasso et le livre d'artiste
This book is the exhibition catalogue of Picasso et le livre d'artiste at Pierre Andre Benoit museum (Alès)
While they are generally little known, artist books are the result of unique collaborations and friendships between poets, artists and editors. These objects halfway between art and poetry are rare and precious. They are signs of the links between different media within the work of a single artist. All throughout his life, Picasso illustrated over 150 books and collaborated with the most prominent writers and poets of the 20th century such as Max Jacob, Paul Valéry, André Breton, Paul Éluard, Robert Desnos, René Char, Jean Cocteau, Louis Aragon and Jacques Prévert.
The catalogue consists in three chapters: Picasso and engraving, Picasso and his relationship with writers, and Picasso and editor Pierre-André Benoit, with who he published many artist books between 1956 and 1974.
