Double Titre
On the occasion of an exhibition at the Maison des Arts in Bages, presented during the summer of 2025, this book offers a dialogue between the work of visual artist Valérie Mréjen and the writing of Emmanuelle Pireyre, two artists rooted in the burlesque nature of the contemporary world.
Artist and visual artist Valérie Mréjen takes postcards of the Bages lagoon in Languedoc and continues her work on popular images. Seriality, non sequiturs, embryonic fiction, misappropriation, misinterpretation, sidestepping—she uses everything to break down the barrier between text and image.
As for Emmanuelle Pireyre, she has worked on the back of the cards and offers us a series of short texts in which her sense of humor and the unexpected hit the mark.
The book brings together for the first time these two mavericks of contemporary literature and art in France.

Mréjen (Valérie)
Charting a resolutely oblique trajectory between art, literature, and cinema, Valérie Mréjen stands out as one of the most atypical figures on the contemporary art scene. She develops her work based on everyday events, cruel and burlesque details of existence, memories, clichés, and misunderstandings. Her works have been presented in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad.
A writer whose books deal with the contemporary world in its many contradictory dimensions, Emmanuelle Pireyre alternates between publishing books and performing on stage. She was awarded the Prix Médicis in 2012.
