Amélie Barnathan - Unsolemn Rituals

A great deal of our dreams and neurosis lurk in the hazy border that separates the conscious and the unconscious. Populated by monsters and chimeras, filled with fantasies and surreal impulses, this dubious territory is Amelie Barnathan’s favorite playground. This very young artist recently graduated from the London Royal College of Arts shows an incredibly delicate mastery of drawing and color. In her 3,50-meter long freeze presented like an accordion book, she has staged dozens of young girls confronted to death impulses, monstrous animals and the cruelty of their friends. This pastel-colored composition proposes a twisted version of an imagery that questions the dark side of female identity. Undoubtedly a revelation of the young generation.
