José Luis Sert à Mazille. Le Carmel de la Paix
"There is something fundamental in my architecture, a Mediterranean element that is like a nostalgia for the climate, for the light, for all that my eyes have seen, in my youth, in the country where I was born."
Built between 1968 and 1972, the Carmel de la Paix is the work of the spanish architect José Luis Sert, an eminent figure of the Modern Movement, who presided over the International Congresses of Modern Architecture from 1947 to 1956. The passionate commitment of the project owners and Sert's attachment to this project made this exceptional architectural achievement possible, the second in France by this architect after the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
This book retraces the human and architectural adventure, accompanied by a rich and original iconography as well as testimonies of the actors of the time.
