Pierrette Bloch - Avril 2015, 25
Set of 15 prints composed of 24 serigraphies and one original drawing of the artist
Born in 1928, Pierrette Bloch is one of Europe’s most renowned post-war abstract artists. An independent spirit, she has made use of poor materials and reduced motifs throughout the course of her career.
The genesis of this exceptional work of art is the realization by the artist of 25 autonomous drawings on black paper, but thought from the beginning as an ensemble, which could be seen in its whole on the wall. These almost square elements, placed only a few millimeters from each other, in a strict and rigorous order chosen by Pierrette Bloch, remind us of her former practice: collages. The repetition of patterns at the heart of her art – circles, lines, peas – by their exceptional variety, produces light which emerges from the black. Each one of these elements is a witness of her great creative freedom and liberty in the choice of her tools (pastel, ink, lead mine). This set, silkscreen prints produced in 15 copies with each time the 25th original drawing, will without doubt stay the most exceptional realization, by its dimension and variety, that the artist has produced in multiples for the past few years.
