Les Sœurs Chevalme - Off-Screen
Off-Screen, the Chevalme sisters’ exhibition at Galerie 8+4, reflects a long-term process rooted in the Villa Albertine’s research residency programme, during which they spent three months in Houston and Texas between January and April 2026.
Setting out with sketchbooks, they immersed themselves in the region’s extensive photographic archives from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as its contemporary collections. They also went out to meet the inhabitants of this vast territory and the communities living there, against a political backdrop marked by segregation that remains a reality to this day. The result, displayed on the gallery walls, is a series of colourful sketches superimposing redrawn archival images onto the contemporary narratives they have gathered.
Other drawings, this time in the form of cut-out papers, punctuate the exhibition space, featuring motifs and slogans encountered in the region, drawn directly from Mexican popular culture and activist movements.

Chevalme (sœurs)
Drawers, painters, photographers and co-founders of the Quartier Général collective, the Chevalme sisters (born in 1981) like to question identity, the weight of history and the shift from one culture to another. These two sisters have both an acerbic look at our society and a form of tenderness for the variety of human genres that they like to celebrate in their offbeat stagings. Discovered in 2011 during the Montrouge exhibition, Delphine and Élodie have been building projects mixing drawings, paintings, photographs and installations ever since.
