The exhibition, which will be held at the Paul Éluard Museum in Saint-Denis between April 18 and July 21, 2025, aims to showcase Sonia Delaunay's textile creations from an original perspective. We are publishing the exhibition catalog.

A new conception of art emerged at the beginning of the 20th century: a global art that sought to break down the barriers between the fine arts and the decorative arts. Textile art took on a new dimension, and many women became involved in the field of fashion. Sonia Delaunay, painter, designer, and fashion designer, was one of them.

Thanks to its impressive collection of 408 fabric printing plates engraved from Sonia Delaunay's drawings, the Paul-Eluard Museum in Saint-Denis offers visitors the opportunity to discover a side of the artist's work that is still little known to the general public and provides them with an accessible and unprecedented experience.

The exhibition catalog, which follows the exhibition layout, presents 125 works, including preparatory gouaches, color cards, printing plates, printed fabrics, and photographs. When viewed together, these different media provide a better understanding of the creative process behind these textiles, produced between 1924 and 1934, while highlighting Sonia Delaunay's connection with the Dionysian manufacturers in the 1920s and 1930s.

Eight authors contribute to this publication: Pauline Fleury, exhibition curator; Waleria Dorogova, art historian and specialist in Sonia Delaunay; Sophie Kurkdjian, PhD in media history; Véronique de Bruignac-La Hougue, chief curator of the Wallpaper Department at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris; Aziza Gril-Mariote, director of the Musée des Tissus in Lyon, Alessandra Ronetti, art historian, Matteo de Leeuw De Monti, and Emilie Hammen, PhD in art history and teacher of fashion history and theory.

Published in collaboration with the Musée Paul-Eluard in Saint-Denis.
