Janos Ber. Traverser
Exhibition catalogue "Traverser" - Centre d'art contemporain Les Tanneries
From October to December 2018, Les Tanneries Centre d’Art Contemporain is happy to present a series of big format paintings Janos Ber specifically created for the Grande Halle. In keeping with the engaged artistic gesture started in the late 60s, Janos Ber continues with passion and determination to create a gestural painting beyond the usual boundaries of spaces and mediums and the frameworks of classical thinking. His gesture goes from moderation to immoderation. On the moderation side, a practice the artist calls into question every day, an ability to manipulate paintbrushes and paint to explore -every time anew- the chosen canvas or paper. The modulation of color and void, of blank space, gap and silence and what takes shape, builds up, erects, of lights and colors. As for immoderation, it shows through the “architectures” here appropriated by the artist’s hand. From one to another, moderation to immoderation, a force arises and manifests itself: that of the artist as he thinks the continuity from the canvas to the wall, the studio to the edifice, the work to the world.

Ber (Janos)
Janos Ber is a hungarian painter, he was born in Budapest in 1937 and lives and works in Paris since 1957. He interrogates Henri Matisse’s writings and paintings, beginning of a production that addresses themes coming from “the subconscious”. In 2008, Martin Pierlot exhibits four moments of his recent painting at the Ratilly castle. Janos Ber also exhibits his work at l’H du Siège in Valenciennes in 2009.
