Peter Downsbrough - THE, AND, THEN

Following the multiple successes of S.U.R.F.A.C.E., Peter Downborough has created a sequel, composed of three “multiples” that function separately or as an ensemble: THE, AND and THEN. In tune with his principle of deconstructing space by the enunciation of simple words, Downsbrough has conceived each “multiple” as a catalyst for new visual fields that collectors are expected to create within their surroundings. These three prepositions are made of black steel letters held together by a single steel rod.

As is his usual practice, Peter Downsbrough invites acquirers to disarrange the intimate space of their homes, by standing the letters up or laying them down or posing them discreetly on a piece of furniture or a bookshelf—for each “multiple” can serve to provoke a new perception of the relationships existing between spaces and objects. Once set together in the same location, THE, AND and THEN prove to be awesomely efficient; they become the boundaries of a territory in which the imagination may venture.
