For “La Parisienne” (The Parisian), an event presented at Galeries Lafayette, the Galerie des Galeries has invited Sofia Achaval and Thibault de Montaigu to conjure up for us, from 1 April to 4 June 2011, the apartment of a fictional Parisian woman.

This couple has brought together a team of creative individuals to forge the background story and personality of this Parisian. The novelist and art critic Catherine Millet will be selecting the fictional woman’s art collection; the artist and writer Valérie Mréjen will get hold of her thoughts by leaving various messages scattered around the apartment; the composer Bertrand Burgalat will imagine her choice of music; the artist Laetitia Benat will reveal the hidden soul of this doodler and draughtsman; while the photographer Annelies Strba will revisit her past and an actor will lend his famous voice to the telephone messages left by a lover.

Bénat (Laetitia)

Laetitia Benat’s works, photographs, videos and drawings, tend towards the rewriting of stories inspired by everyday life. But a daily life that has become strange because of the attention that is given to details that are usually invisible. Her pictures show languished, still or wandering women in empty or closed places. All these pale faces pursue the idea of the original portrait; the one that would gather them all. Composition and writing of “memory with no memories”, all these moments are those of the “atmospheric ghosts”  that surround the artist.

Burgalat (Bertrand)

Muscian and producer, Bertrand Burgalat participated in over 200 disks. He remixed Depeche Mode, arranged Supergrass and Einstürzende Neubauten. He also sung with RobertWyatt, composed for cinema as for Marc Lavoine and founded the Tricatel label that addresses very diverse muscical styles with singularity.
